Invisible Barrier Systems
Patent Pending
IBS-300 Series
The Invisible Barrier system (IBS) is an active thermographic protective system for work areas where personnel are exposed to hazardous machinery or processes. The IBS 300 series is a machine mounted system and the IBS-200 series is a stand alone unit. The system consists of at least two sensor pods and an evaluation unit (MCU). The sensor pod uses passive infrared (PIR) to detect human motion within the protection zone. The MCU checks a individual safety input and output signals at startup and continuously monitors for proper function during operation. All safe outputs are halted if an error occurs and a safe state is maintained.
During installation, the user aligns the sensor pods with the designated protection zone. When an infrared motion is detected in the protection zone (i.e., the limb or body of the operator entering the zone), both output signal switching devices are opened immediately. The opening of the signals controls the stopping of the machine hazard.
Benefits
Safety Features
- Replaces fencing required to guard rotating steel on underground drills and various other equipment
- Innovative design using passive infrared technology to detect heat signature
- Superior performance compared to traditional laser or radar barrier systems
- Increase productivity
- optimal use without the need for reflectors or a still environment
- exceptional safety rating
- Achieves Performance Level (PL-D) Category 4 architecture with a diagnostic coverage of 99%
- High resolution timestamped datalogging can store up to 9000 hours of valuable data
- The system is redundant with built-in monitoring.
- The safety function (shutdown initiated by a safeguard) remains effective in the case of a component failure.
- The correct opening and closing of the safety functions are automatically tested in each on-off cycle.
- The correct detection and subsequent opening and closing of the safety sensor functions are automatically tested periodically by the operator.
Protective Field IBS-300 Series
IBS-200 Series
The system consists of at least one tripod with integrated sensor pods and an evaluation unit. The sensor pod uses passive infrared (PIR) to detect human motion within the protective zone. The evaluation unit contains the control and monitoring functions. The infrared (IR) signals are monitored and evaluated by a microprocessor, which provides the operator with information about the system's state using a combination of LED indicators, an audible alarm and an LED display.
Multiple sensor units may be connected in series. The additional units can be arranged to provide additional protected area coverage. A Velatech-supplied cable interconnects units. The interconnection cables are available in various standard lengths and are customizable upon request.
